The New Kintsugi Story
‘New kintsugi’ is a new way of gluing porcelain based on the old Kintsugi technique. The story goes that Kintsugi may have originated when in the late 15th century the emperor sent his damaged Chinese pottery back to China for repairs. When it returned repaired with metal staples, he ordered his craftsmen to come up with something more aesthetic; gold repair. This art became such a hype that some collectors deliberately started smashing valuable pottery so it could be repaired with the gold seams of Kintsugi.

With the ‘New kintsugi repair kit', invented in 2009 we combine this lovely old technique with new easy to use technology. This way we encourage everyone to mend broken artefacts instead of throwing them away. Even more so: instead of focusing on its flaws, the golden seams emphasise the cracks and thus celebrate the beauty of imperfection. By repairing an object, the product becomes unique and personal.

Who are Humade?
Humade are an innovative Dutch design brand and studio located in Amsterdam and the initiators of the Kintsugi movement. They design and create sustainable products and DIY solutions with a unique story. Through their products and international retailers, they aim to spread the beauty of repair and invite you to look at the world a little different.

The Team
The New Kintsugi repair kit is locally assembled by a social enterprise that employs people with a distance to the labor market. Humade strives to be an inclusive employer wherever possible and they are grateful for a team of 10 employees who assemble the kit with the greatest care.

What's in the kit?
- 25gr Two component glue
- 10g Putty to fill up missing bits and pieces
- 4gr Gold or silver powder
- wooden brush
- bamboo stearing sticks
- gloves
- A step by step manual with detailed pictures

Practical Information
- One New Kintsugi Repair Kit can be used multiple times to fix up to 10 items (see picture)
- Available colours: Gold
- The New Kintsugi Repair Kit can be used on almost any other material such as glass, wood, marble or hard plastics
- The kit can be used multiple times
- Please make sure to read the Kintsugi Kit manual before use
- When you are ready let it dry for 48 hours so the glue can fully set
- The glue has been used for many years to repair kitchenware without any complaints but if you have any questions, please let us know.
